Film review

Bob, a cab-driving serial killer who stalks his prey on the city streets alongside his reluctant protégé Tim, who must make a life or death choice between following in Bob’s footsteps or breaking free from his captor.

Damian O’Donnell (based on a screenplay by),Jennifer Chambers Lynch (screenplay) (as Jennifer Lynch)

I love serial killer films and when I read this it seemed intriguing but however I found the film to be quite disturbing and also pointless. He was never even a suspect at any point in the film and the twist at the end was short lived and with no explanation as to why it happened. The film ended bluntly with no hint as to what may have happened to the boy or the girl he saved. It started off with promise but ended up being a complete waste of my time I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone!

Drawn to fish

I have an aquarium in my home and I admit that sometimes I find myself drawn to it. I can spend ages just watching them swim (usually when i’m supposed to be writing!) I came across an article and this is what they said:

Believe it or not, aquariums reduce stress and offer other health benefits that are undeniably real.

Studies have shown that aquariums have a profound ability to lower blood pressure, calm the mind, and help to alleviate anxiety. They also help to create a relaxing, soothing environment just about anywhere you put them. It’s no wonder that aquariums are often used in the waiting rooms of doctors, dentists, specialists, child care centers, restaurants and spas. They have the power to keep us entertained and mesmerized for long periods of time. It has been said that aquariums have a hypnotic effects and when people are subjected to them prior to having medical procedures done, most end up needing less pain medication to get the job done.

Not only do aquariums prove to be visually hypnotic, they can be set up so they provide the calming sounds of running water which can completely add to the relaxing effect they already have.

Aquariums are very beneficial to:

  • those suffering with insomnia
  • those suffering with high blood pressure
  • those suffering with stress & anxiety
  • those suffering from tension
  • children with behavioral/psychological problems
  • the elderly
  • those suffering from chronic illness
  • crying infants, including those suffering with colic & separation anxiety

I’m not sure whether they lower blood pressure or alleviate anxiety but they are definitely hypnotic. Though I have to say the sound of running water is more of an annoyance than a relaxing effect since it would have me running to the toilet 🙂 Luckily the only sound from mine is the hum of the filter.

A hermit

I know there are many suffers of agoraphobia in this world and I can relate on some level as to how this may feel. As a teenager you couldn’t keep me indoors I was always out with friends leaving early in the morning and returning when the stars were out but since I had my children it has become all about them and slowly my friends faded into the background. if I go out now it is only to do trips like school runs, shopping etc and I’ve become somewhat of a hermit. It started with the fact that it was easier to stay at home with the little ones for feeding, changing etc but then I began to prefer it at home. As most parents know it can become stressful at times when out and about with small children and I began to limit things to essential trips only. Now I find that I dread going out. I do most of my shopping online and pay bills etc this way also. I don’t want to go out I’m quite happy to be in the comfort of my own home but unfortunately in the school holidays the kids need to go out on day trips to keep them amused. I think this is why I hate the summer at least in winter no one wants to go out. Has anyone else suffered from this and if so did you overcome it? I don’t see it as a problem myself but obviously my partner and children don’t share the same home comforts as I do. I can amuse myself for hours either reading, writing and of course there’s always the housework but apparently I’m being selfish.

School uniform nightmare!

Posted: July 17, 2015 in books

I have to wonder what school uniform designers are thinking. I understand the need for them and also the need to appear smart in order to reflect the school’s image but some are absolutely horrifying! My son’s one is no exception. He has a burgundy blazer and a yellow and green striped tie with white shirt and charcoal grey trousers not something I would want to wear but then my own school uniform was just as bad. I had a salmon and red striped shirt with a black and red striped blazer! Do they wake up one morning and rub their hands together thinking let’s create the ultimate fashion disaster to completely destroy a child’s image? Here are a few dreadful examples 🙂

Bad Parent?

bad parent

Here’s a situation for all you parent’s out there. My son is sixteen and he met a girl when we went on holiday. This girl lives about an hour and a half train ride from where we live so that doesn’t exactly help their relationship. He seems besotted with her and they have been together for a year. They spend all day either messaging or talking on “face time.” Not wanting to see my son so upset over the fact that they don’t get to see each other, I’ve allowed him to go up there once a week to visit her. it started out with him taking a friend along but obviously this isn’t always convenient so now he goes alone. My question to all of you is does it make me a bad parent to allow him to travel alone? I admit that I hate it since its so far and I do insist that he informs me of his arrival and when he leaves. I also keep in regular contact during his time there but I’ve recently been accused of being a bad parent. I can’t bring myself to forbid him from seeing her that to me would be heartbreaking. He gets so excited the night before and even when he returns they are still talking on the phone even though they have just been with each other.

blog quote

In need of inspiration? Though it’s hard at times to forget what’s gone and believe me I struggle with this myself, the point is it won’t be coming back. Do you remain in a past that drags you down each day and for what purpose? I know it’s easy to say but what other options do you have 🙂

I’m right!

Have you ever come across one of those people who always seem to think they are right? I have and they are the most infuriating individuals you can ever have the displeasure of meeting. It doesn’t matter what you say even if you can physically prove they are wrong they will still insist they are right. I’ve stood there on many occasions battling it out knowing full well that they are mistaken but I may as well be banging my head against a brick wall! Why do they do this? What could they possibly gain from it and what is so difficult about admitting they are mistaken? They are highly frustrating people and should come with a warning label especially if you are like me and will continue to argue until you get your point across 🙂

First up sorry for the MIA I’ve been extremely busy with family commitments and trying to complete the fifth and final installment of the Twisted Bloodlines series 🙂

Time is one of the most precious things we have but why do we always seem to be wishing it away? I remember as a kid I wanted the years to move fast so that I could be older, a grown up. Or wishing the months away for birthday’s and Christmas to get presents. How about watching the classroom clock for home time that was always a favorite of mine 🙂 As adults we do the same perhaps you’re waiting on a new book in the series you’re reading which is due to be released in a years time so you wish time would move fast (of course it has to be a spectacular book :)) Or as I do when a film is being made of my favorite book, pray for the months to hurry up so that I can watch it. Or maybe you’re wishing on a big birthday to celebrate but the point is we should make the most of our time not find reasons to wish it away.

Do you do this if so what have you been wishing your time away for?
