Since the release of the last book in the series is rapidly approaching, I will be doing a post on each book. Here is the first one 🙂

Snubbed sibling

It’s hard when you live in a big family. You may feel that your other siblings receive more attention than you. Perhaps you’re the oldest and feel a tinge of jealousy for the amount of time and attention the younger ones receive from your parents. As a mother of seven I have to say that it is hard to divide your attention evenly. Some, especially the younger children do require more attention but it doesn’t mean the others are loved any less. Even when your children are all grown and flown the nest the feeling of being snubbed can continue. They find that you’ve called one of their other siblings more than you, or you’ve been to visit the others and not them. I really hope my children don’t grow to be like this, you are, after all one person and as much as you’d like to, can’t be everywhere at once 😀

Harper Madison isn’t like other girls. She has extraordinary powers, but her inability to control them has gotten her kicked from so many foster homes she’s lost count. Shadowford Home for Girls is her last chance, and she hopes Peachville High will be the fresh start she needs.

At first, life appears to be looking up for Harper. She’s making new friends and is strangely drawn to the guy next door. But when evidence ties her to the gruesome murder of a Demons cheerleader, Harper discovers this small town has a big secret.

At first, I found this book interesting and intriguing. It showed promise but by the end I was left disappointed. I guess it’s because I didn’t agree with Harper’s change of attitude. While the culprit at the end was a surprise, I felt it a bit rushed. I would probably read the next installment since I would like to find out what happens to her, but for me, I’d give this book

It was lacking in something 😀

Roseline Enescue didn’t ask to become an immortal, to have all of the guests at her wedding slaughtered, or be forced into marriage with a man whose lust for blood would one day ignite the vampire legend.

Willing to risk everything for a chance at a normal life, Roseline escapes to America, but her transition into the human world isn’t easy. Mortal men flock after her while cutthroat girls plot her demise. Yet she remains relatively unfazed until she meets Gabriel Marston. As their lives entwine, Roseline realizes he is more than he seems. His ability to grind concrete into dust pales in comparison to the glowing cross tattoo that mysteriously appears on his forearms.

Despite the forbidden bond between them, Roseline can’t help wondering what Gabriel is. He’s not human. He’s not immortal. So just what is he?

I absolutely loved this book. I was hooked from the beginning and read it in one sitting. I loved the characters which were well thought out and interacted together perfectly. At no point did I feel my attention wavering, I was completely devoted. I’m dying to read the second installment but unfortunately I have vowed to get through my TBR pile but once acheived, this will be the first book I head for 🙂

Brilliant book, a must read. Five stars from me 🙂

imageCan this witch survive in a world of magic, possibilities, danger, and love?

Ebony Bell owns a cantankerous magical bookstore with a personality like a battering ram. Her best friend is a detective who drives like a bat out of hell. And a tall, dark, handsome, but seriously irritating stranger by the name of Nathan Wall has just walked into her life.

Oh, and she’s a witch. A consultant witch, to be precise. She spends her mornings selling books and her evenings investigating magical crimes for the local police department.

While her life is messy, she manages, until one investigation ends in a costly mistake. She reveals her powers to a normal human, and in punishment is severed from her magic for one lunar cycle. If that was her only problem, she would cope, but very soon darkness surrounds her.

Something is after Ebony Bell. A curse. She must fight it, or die. And if that wasn’t bad enough, she has to rely on the help, and kisses, of that darn Nathan Wall.
I wasn’t all that keen on this book. It seemed to drag. I didn’t really like the main character and I found the book confusing at times, jumping from one thing to another. It didn’t really get to the point of things until the last few chapters and it didn’t really inspire me to purchase the next in the series.

The Wrong Girl
Book 1: The 1st Freak House Trilogy

The Wrong Girl (Freak House) by C.J. Archer
Victorian England

It’s customary for Gothic romance novels to include a mysterious girl locked in the attic. Hannah Smith just wishes she wasn’t that girl. As a narcoleptic and the companion to an earl’s daughter with a strange affliction of her own, Hannah knows she’s lucky to have a roof over her head and food in her belly when so many orphans starve on the streets. Yet freedom is something Hannah longs for. She did not, however, want her freedom to arrive in the form of kidnapping.

Taken by handsome Jack Langley to a place known as Freak House, she finds herself under the same roof as a mad scientist, his niece, a mute servant and Jack, a fire starter with a mysterious past. They assure Hannah she is not a prisoner and that they want to help her. The problem is, they think she’s the earl’s daughter. What will they do when they discover they took the wrong girl?

I really enjoyed this book. It kept me interested and intrigued from the beginning. It’s quite a short book but that didn’t mean the action was limited. I liked the characters and found them easy to get along with and will definitely be purchasing the next in the series.

Possessive people

I hate possessive people. They want everything their own way and don’t care what they do to achieve it. Your own opinions and wants no longer count. You’re constantly on edge, not wanting to say the wrong thing or even dare to text another person in case of invoking their green eyed monster. Basically when you’re unfortunate enough to be involved with a possessive partner, your life no longer matters. They do their upmost to make sure your friends and family fade into the background, isolating you so that you’re completely dependent on them. Both of your lives are miserable. You can never please this type of person. They probably don’t even want you, but would rather spend the rest of you’re lives in misery so no one else can have you.
